Speaking to a group of 150+ children at a elementary school in Western North Carolina.

I believe STEM EDUCATION is Critical.

That's why I take every opportunity to talk about weather, climate, and technology to kids. It brings me joy to see students' faces light up when I show them a cool weather graphic. If I can get at least one person interested in STEM, then I know I've done my job.

I have been to dozens of schools in the Western North Carolina area, and have given talks to students from kindergarten to college. Prior topics have included:

  • Why Asheville, NC holds all the world's weather data.
  • How meteorologists measure the weather.
  • How coding can harness the power of data analysis and visualization.
  • What weather extremes are and how they play a role in a changing climate.

In addition, I have also judged numerous science fair competitions, and am a volunteer for the hour of code project.

If you are a teacher looking for someone to speak to their class on these topics, please contact me. Please be as specific as possible in your request. If my availability meets your needs, then I will schedule a block of my time (no more than an hour) free of charge. If I am within 100 miles of your school, I will be willing to drive. If outside of 100 miles, then virtual arrangements can be made.
